The Role:

Reporting to the Waste Operation Supervisor your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Moving assorted waste product
  • Loading trucks with the forklift
  • General cleaning duties
  • Recycling of Plastic, Cardboard and Pallets
  • Offsite Waste solids application
  • Waste Water Treatment Plant duties as required

A great opportunity has arisen within our Farm Maintenance Team and a Assistant Maintenance Supervisor role has become available based out of our Lockwood facility.

The Role:

The Assistant Supervisor supports the Farming Maintenance Manager to ensure that our farms operate as efficiently and effectively as possible. The role will be based in Lockwood and be responsible for all maintenance activities on four Broiler Farms. You may also be required to assist with maintenance activities at other Hazeldenes Sites if required. As the Assistant Supervisor your duties will include but are not limited to:

• Assist with the Leading and motivating of maintenance teams
• Effective maintenance of infrastructure and equipment
• Planning, delivering and reviewing effective maintenance processes
• Assessing upgrades and maintenance requirements e.g. shedding, plant and equipment
• Ensuring effective preventative maintenance programmes are in place
• Attending to emergency situations in the Farming Division
• Ensuring compliance with OHS requirements
• Proactively improving safe work practices and workplace environment
• Operating within all quarantine and biosecurity regulations of Hazeldene’s Chicken Farm

About you:

• Experience within a management role supervising maintenance activities
• 3 years maintenance experience – ideally within a farming environment
• Good computer skills

The role:

Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Manager you will lead a team of 4 fabricators and your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the optimal performance of all plant and equipment throughout the site through preventative maintenance programmes
  • Identifying and implementing plant improvements
  • Performing breakdown duties in regards to basic mechanical issues as required
  • Leading and mentoring a small team of skilled tradespeople

About you:

To be considered for this role you must be committed to safety in the workplace as we pride ourselves on our Zero Harm goal.  You must also possess:

  • 2 years’ experience within a leadership position in your respective field
  • Relevant trade qualifications in metal fabrication along with Mechanical Aptitude
  • Strong working knowledge of Preventative Maintenance techniques

  • MIG / TIG/ARC welding experience
  • Exposure to Maintenance software programs (preferably MEX)

  • Working with your team on European, Japanese and American drive line trucks and a range of tractors, earthmoving equipment, generators, forklifts, and refrigerated transport vehicles.

As a qualified and experienced Fitter and Turner/Maintenance Fitter, you will have the opportunity to work as part of the team on state of the art, high volume processing equipment, creating a great career base for many further opportunities. This key role is responsible for assisting with preventative maintenance programmes to ensure the optimal performance of all plant and equipment throughout the site.   • Coordination and organisation of work teams, scheduling rosters and training staff under instruction from management
  • Assist in managing hatchery records, interpreting results and taking appropriate action on instruction from management
  • Participation in an on call roster including weekends and after hours in consultation with management
  • Ensuring a safe and productive workplace that fosters teamwork and inclusivity

About you:

To be successful you must have an absolute commitment is to producing higher welfare birds for our loyal customers, you must also possess:

  • A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a production environment
  • A strong background of successful people management, and an ability to foster teamwork
  • Assist in maintaining the hatchery management program including testing, sampling, quality assurance and hygiene.
  • An understanding of basic repair work and mechanical aptitude

Hazeldene’s Chicken Farm is taking its fresh chicken products to the world.

After many years of selling frozen products to Hong Kong, the Philippines, Solomon Islands and PNG, Hazeldene’s is now exporting fresh products to Hong Kong several times a week in order to meet growing demand.

Hazeldene’s is the biggest private employer in Bendigo with more than 700 employees and 400 contractors, most of whom come from the area. This family business, which produces chickens for market from breeding to plate, has been operating for more than 60 years. It processes up to 680,000 chickens a week at Lockwood, with breeding and rearing farms, a hatchery, growing farms and a processing plant across Central Victoria.

Hazeldene’s Executive Director John Hazeldene said the company, which prides itself on producing quality chickens and presenting them in innovative ways, was starting to reap the rewards of building relationships and contacts throughout Asia.

“The quality of our product is drawing plenty of attention and we are creating a highly sought after brand position in Hong Kong,” he said.

“While exports currently make up only a small portion of our overall sales, we are keen to expand this section of the business rapidly over the next five years.”

Mr Hazeldene said it was important for the company to do plenty of ground work now in building capabilities, gaining accreditations and finetuning logistics in preparation for the planned growth.

Recent Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) negotiated by the Federal Government have encouraged Hazeldene’s to pursue export markets more aggressively.

“These FTAs may open up areas that we have not had direct access to previously,” Mr Hazeldene said. “We are very optimistic they will lead to strong opportunities for growth.”
