Food Safety Accreditations and Audits

We work to global food safety standards and are accredited for ISO 9001, SQF 2000 and HACCP – all quality management food safety systems. We focus on achieving full compliance and regularly assist the numerous auditors that frequent our premises to validate our hard work.

HACCP

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) is a food safety system that identifies risks around food safety and quality and then ensures control measures are put in place to control those risks. All Hazeldene’s products are tested under the HACCP Food Safety System and we are audited every year, with a recertification process every three years.

ISO9001: 2008

We are accredited to ISO 9001: 2008 which was developed and published by the International Organisation for Standardisation. The standard provides guidance and tools for companies and organizations who want to ensure that their products and services consistently meet customers’ requirements and that quality is consistently improved. ISO 9001: 2008 sets out the requirements of a quality management system

SQF Code

The SQF Code meets the needs of all suppliers in the food industry through an internationally recognized certification system, with an emphasis on the systematic application of HACCP for control of food quality hazards as well as food safety. The implementation of an SQF management system addresses a buyer’s food safety and quality requirements and provides the solution for businesses supplying local and global food markets.

We hold accreditation to Level 3 which is a comprehensive implementation of food safety and quality management systems development.

This means we are audited and recertified every six months. This accreditation focuses on risk, risk mitigation, management commitment, training, pest control, biosecurity, animal welfare, staff hygiene and food handling hygiene.

FREPA

The Free Range Egg and Poultry Association (FREPA) mandate standards for Free Range poultry farming. We were among the first meat poultry producers to become accredited for Free Range in Victoria.  FREPA conduct an annual audit on our farms to the FREPA standard, and we are recertified every 12 months.

RSPCA

Pioneering RSPCA Approved Poultry Farming

In 2011 Hazeldene’s partnered with Coles to introduce RSPCA approved poultry. We’ve always had a strong commitment to animal welfare, but the RSPCA framework gave us robust parameters for our farming operations. We were the first in Victoria, and the second nationally, to be accredited for RSPCA Approved poultry and in the beginning were the only supplier of RSPCA products to Coles.

RSPCA requirements include specific perching, lighting, feed, densities and record keeping. Chicken in RSPCA approved barns can perch, dust bathe, scratch and play with toys.

Every barn is audited every three months by the RSPCA and recertified.

PrimeSafe

PrimeSafe is a Statutory Authority operating under the Meat Industry Act 1993 and Seafood Safety Act 2003 to regulate the safety of meat, poultry and seafood across Victoria.

PrimeSafe audits our whole site every six months with a focus on our distribution fleet. This ensures our trucks are kept in excellent condition for delivering our products to customers.

Our site needs to meet the ISO and HACCP standards as well as various Australian Standards including the Australian Standard for Hygienic Production of Poultry Meat for Human Consumption (AS 4465).

AUS -MEAT

AUS-MEAT audits us every 12 months to confirm our animal welfare practices, including humane slaughtering. Our investment in this area of the business in 2011 has meant we have the most modern processing facilities in the Southern Hemisphere.

Coles

To ensure we meet Coles’ quality requirements, we are audited every six months to the Coles Supplier Requirements.

ALDI

ALDI also audits us every six months, to the ALDI Audit Addendum.

Woolworths

Woolworths implements the Woolworths Quality Assurance Standard (WQA) and audits us every six months to ensure we meet their requirements.

We welcome audits and see them as an opportunity to continually improve and maintain high standards throughout our operations. We love to pass our audits with flying colours, validating our strong commitment to the best quality chicken Australia has to offer!
